"I was lucky nobody noticed. I don’t know what happened to me, but I was just sitting at my desk shaking. I couldn’t even type an email because my fingers wouldn’t hit the keys properly. I managed to stay there all day but the drive home was very difficult, I couldn’t really see properly."
A Chief Finance Officer of a major global organisation, talking to our helpline. He was experiencing panic attacks but had no idea why. Last year, over 32,000 UK workers approached our Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) for help – they had problems at home, at work, in their relationships, with their finances; in fact, across the board they were experiencing an incredible range of problems that were having a direct impact on their productivity. The usage highlighted the growing need of businesses to understand what is happening to their workers, to have insight into the things employees don’t normally talk about openly yet which have a significant effect in the workplace. Over 8,000 of the people who called us moved into short-term therapy with us – many of them told us they would otherwise have taken time off work.
